At Smiley Dental Fort Worth, Dr. Lynh Pham and our team in Ft. Worth, Texas, are available to help you during a dental emergency. If you have a dental emergency, you will want to contact our office as soon as possible so we can provide prompt care. We can instruct you by phone how to care for your smile until you can come in. If there has been trauma to the head or neck, it is advisable that you see your doctor or an emergency room physician.
Meanwhile, following are some tips to care for your smile before seeing our dentist:
-Knocked out tooth: If you have lost a permanent tooth, the important thing is to keep it moist. Before you can get in to be seen, it is best to place it back in the socket (avoid handling the root), if possible. The next best thing is to put it in between the cheek and gums, or a container of milk, or in a tooth preservation product which has been approved by the ADA on the label.
-Cracked tooth: If you cracked your tooth, be sure to rinse your mouth with warm water and place a cold compress on the face to minimize swelling. Make an appointment with Dr. Pham as soon as possible.
-Toothache: If you have a toothache, first, rinse your mouth with warm water. Then, carefully floss any food that might be in the tooth. If the pain doesn’t go away, be sure to come in and see Dr. Pham.
To avoid a dental emergency, there are some things you can do. When participating in sports, wearing a mouthguard can offer great protection. Avoid chewing hard candy, popcorn kernels and ice which can crack your teeth, and remember that your teeth are for food, they are not tools like scissors to cut things.
